The State of Qatar calls for doubling international efforts to reach a drug-free world and reiterates its commitment to the implementation of relevant international conventions

The State of Qatar called for doubling the joint international efforts to achieve a drug-free world, reaffirming its commitment to the implementation of relevant conventions and instruments and contributing to regional and international drug control efforts and programs and in conformity with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, international law and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Full respect for the principles of State sovereignty, equal rights, mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs.

In a statement at the Ministerial Segment of the sixty-second session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs held in Vienna, the Acting Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the International Organizations, Mr. Abdullah Bin Nasser Al-Fuhaid Al-Hajri, said that the State of Qatar was proud of its record in the fight against drugs. A comprehensive, integrated and balanced strategy, supervised by the National Committee for Combating Drugs, chaired by His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior. This strategy focuses on prevention, protection of the community, law enforcement, and attention to drug victims and the involvement of the health, social and economic sectors. Judicial and human rights in the formulation and implementation of preventive initiatives.

In October 2018, the State of Qatar received the mission of the International Monitoring Authority. The report of the Annual Commission for 2018 recorded Qatar's commitment to implementing international drug control conventions and ensuring the availability of controlled substances for medical and scientific purposes through its health services. With evidence-based treatment and rehabilitation services.

She also noted that the report of the UN Vienna Office on Drugs and Crime reviewed aspects of the activities of the World Program for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration, funded by the State of Qatar, which are aimed at immunizing communities and young people in particular from drugs and crime.

 

At the end of the speech, the State of Qatar called on the United Nations Member States and all donors to provide more support to the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the International Narcotics Control Board to enhance its central role in the implementation of our joint commitments, To help them implement their drug prevention policies.
