  • Official Language and Currency

  • Local time

    Local time in Vienna is one hour after the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +1) during the winter and two hours during the summer (GMT +2). Winter time begins on the last Sunday of the month of October and ends at midnight on the last Saturday of the month of March, summer time starts on the first hour of the last Sunday of March and ends at midnight on the last Saturday of October.

     

  • Electricity and measurement system

    The voltage used is 220-240 volts, the system of measurement is the metric system.

     

  • Climate

    Austria is located in the center of Europe, that’s why it is characterized by pleasant weather, where the four seasons clearly vary. Temperatures range during the summer season between 15 degrees (at night) and 27 degrees (during the day) and the weather is relatively mild during spring and autumn. During the winter season temperatures oscillate between -15 and +2 degrees.

     

  • Official Working Hours
  • Official working hours are from nine o'clock in the morning until five in the evening. Shops are opened between nine in the morning and seven in the evening, without interruption during the days of the week (Monday to Friday) and until six o'clock on Saturday. Shops are closed on Sundays and public holidays.

    The majority of restaurants offer their services every day from 11 am till 12 pm. Many of the tourist restaurants offer their services without interruption, as is the case for all cafes which are famous for the city of Vienna.

  • The international dial code of Austria is +43, to connect to the State of Qatar the international dial code +974 is used. Most hotels in the city of Vienna offer internet and fax services free of charge to guests and you can also benefit from free use of the internet services in a number of restaurants.

  • Payment
  • Most credit cards like MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Diners Club are accepted in Austria. However, small shops, restaurants and supermarkets often don’t accept credit cards. Foreign currency can be exchanged at any commercial bank.

     

  • Postal services Austrian post offices offer banking service and the rapid transfer of funds from Western Union in addition to postal services. These offices are open on weekdays (Monday - Friday) from 8 am until 7 pm and on Saturdays from nine am until noon.

  • Public Transport Services The Republic of Austria offers an extensive network of rail links across the country. In Vienna public transport of all types is spread: underground networks (U-Bahn), trams, buses and trains cover the entire parts of the city. The system of public transport is characterized by punctuality and cleanliness.
