Qatar asserts that drugs pose a serious threat to human health, security and stability and undermine the pillars of sustainable development


The State of Qatar stressed that the world drug problem continued to pose a serious threat to human health, security and safety, in a speech to the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna, Economic, social and political systems and stability in an increasing number of States, as well as undermining the pillars of sustainable development.
HE Sheikh Ali Bin Jassim Al Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Organizations in Vienna, addressed the 61st session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs held in Vienna that the economic power of criminal organizations for drug trafficking is increasing , At a time of increasing and diversifying links to drug trafficking and terrorism, corruption and other forms of organized crime such as money laundering and cybercrime, which calls for redoubling joint efforts to address these threats. 
The Qatari Ambassador pointed to the responsibility of all countries to find means of cooperation according to an integrated, balanced and comprehensive approach that is committed to the goals and objectives of the three international drug control conventions, and reaffirms the complementarity and complementarity of the Political Declaration and Action Plan for 2009, the Ministerial Declaration of 2014 and the document of the special session of the United Nations General Assembly 2016.
He called for the implementation of the commitments and commitments contained in those instruments and documents in accordance with the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations and other relevant international conventions, foremost of which is the principle of full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States, non-interference in the internal affairs of States and the principle of equal rights and respect for the particularities of cultural and social States and territories. 
Addressing Qatar's strategy in the fight against drugs, the Ambassador said that the State of Qatar implements a comprehensive, integrated and interdisciplinary drug control strategy that integrates the enforcement of laws prohibiting the entry of illicit drugs into the country, while ensuring the provision of controlled substances for medical and scientific purposes Exclusively, anti-money-laundering, and preventive measures to immunize the society, focusing on young people and students in particular, and treatment of dependents.
The State of Qatar attached great importance to regional and international cooperation and continued its generous contributions in support of regional and international drug control programs, including its contribution to the global program for the implementation of the Doha Declaration, which was referred to in the report of the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. 
HE Sheikh Ali bin Jassem Al Thani said that the State of Qatar is pleased to announce that the projects of the World Program for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration have begun to bear fruit in many countries through the immunization of societies, especially youth, from drugs and crime. Vienna to implement its programs and urged the Office to provide technical assistance to developing countries in order to develop and implement community, family and school programs and strategies for drug prevention.
