The first meeting of the committee tasked with tracking the implementation of Doha Declaration was held at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna today.
HE Dr Abdullah Al Mal, Advisor to the Minister of Interior, chaired Qatari delegation to the meeting which was attended by Dr Ahmed Hassan Al Hammadi, Director of the Department of Legal Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, and HE Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, Qatar's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna. The UNODC delegation was headed by John Brandolino, UNODC's Division for Treaty Affairs.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the progress made in the implementation of the funding agreement, and discussed projects that can be accomplished by the end of 2016.
It should be noted that the committee was formed in accordance with the agreement signed on November 27, 2015 for the implementation of the Doha agreement program. The agreement permitted Qatar to fund projects and initiatives - recommended by the Doha Declaration adopted in the Thirteenth Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice held in Doha last April - over the next four years up to the Fourteenth Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice to be held in Japan in 2020.
